A leopard, that strayed into the village and injured several people in Nandibevur in the taluk, was killed by the villagers on Sunday.

People gathered in large numbers when they spotted the big cat and attacked it with axes, rods, sticks and stones, beating it to death, forest department officials said.

The animal had strayed into the village from a nearby forest. The panic-stricken animal ran amok injuring several people.

The injured were rushed to the government hospital for treatment.
